Things to Do
Here are some suggestions on things to do while on the island. Some of these activities are located outside of Palma and can only reached by car. Let us know if you have any questions or would like other recommendations!
01
Explore Palma
Palma is a vibrant but laid-back city full of street-side cafés, high-end shopping, and beautiful Spanish architecture. It’s also home to the large Gothic Roman church, the Cathedral of Santa Maria of Palma – or La Seu, as it’s more commonly known.
02
Take a train to Sóller and Port de Sóller
If you are staying in Palma, you can take the vintage train that runs from Palma to Soller, then transfer to the tram that runs to and from Port de Sóller. Soller is a typical old Mediterranean town, made up of narrow streets lined with traditional style residential townhouses with the famous green Mallorcan shutters. The main square, Plaça Constitució, has plenty of cafes where you can enjoy a fresh orange juice or coffee.
03
Visit Deià
Deià is a municipality and small coastal village in the Serra de Tramuntana, which forms the northern ridge of the island. You can reach Deià by car or public transportation. There are a few interesting small boutiques, galleries and shops in the village, and plenty of places to eat and drink – including Michelin-starred Es Racó d’Es Teix. It’s worth taking time to stroll around, admiring the sympathetically restored old stone houses nestling in narrow alleys.
04
Hike to calas and beaches
The calas and beaches are mostly reached by car, followed by a short hike. Calas are formed by a process of erosion whereby softer rocks are worn away faster than the harder rocks surrounding them, resulting in shell-shaped, pocket-sized bays, often surrounded by precipitous cliffs and ravines with views out to the sea. These may be what you see when you google "Mallorca". They are beautiful and worth trekking to. Please note that visiting cala's involves some steep steps.
